CHILDREN'S RECIPES

Peanut Butter Milkshake
  • 2 c. vanilla ice-cream
  • 1 c. white milk
  • 1/2 c. chocolate syrup
  • 1/3 c. peanut butter

Put all ingredients into a blender. Blend at medium speed for 1 1/2 minutes or until desired consistency.

Serves 2 people.

Kool-O-Pops
  • 1 (3 oz.) pkg. raspberry jello
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 2 c. cold water

Dissolve contents of package of Jello and sugar in boiling water. Stir in cold water. Pour into popsicle molds; freeze until firm.

Makes 16 pops.

Fudgesicles
  • 1 pkg. instant chocolate pudding
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. sweet cream
  • 1/2 c. white sugar

Beat until well mixed. Pour into molds and freeze.

Popcorn Cake
  • 1/4 c. margarine
  • 1 pkg. white marshmallows
  • 8 to 10 c. popped popcorn
  • 1/2 c. gumdrops, baking size
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Generously grease angel food cake pan. Pop the popcorn. Melt margarine and marshmallows together. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over popcorn, tossing gently until well coated. Pack lightly into cake pan. Level off and immediately turn onto serving plate. Press in gumdrops to decorate.

Taffy to Twist
  • 1 c. light corn syrup
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • butter for greasing hands and pan
  • food colouring

Generously grease a long pan. Mix corn syrup, sugar and water in saucepan. Put in thermometer and boil until mixture reaches 258F. Remove from heat and stir in butter, salt, vanilla, baking soda and food colouring. Pour the taffy into pan. Cool 15 minutes or until it's cool enough to handle. Give a "hunk" of taffy to two people with buttered hands. Pull the taffy, fold, pull again until it is light in colour. Twist into ropes and shapes or twist two colours together. Wrap into waxed paper until they're ready to eat.

Reese's Pieces
  • 2 1/2 c. graham wafer crumbs
  • 1 c. peanut butter
  • 1 c. melted margarine
  • 1 (12 oz.) pkge. chocolate chips, melted
  • 2 3/4 c. icing sugar

Melt chips in microwave and set aside. Mix other ingredients and press firmly into an ungreased 9 x 13" pan. Pour chocolate over top. Refrigerate.

Cut before cool.

Playdough

This recipe comes from my mother-in-law.

  • 1 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. salt
  • 3 tbsp. cream of tartar
  • 1c. water
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • food colouring

Mix dry ingredients together. Add water, oil and food colouring. Cook over medium heat. Continue to mix. (Mixture will turn into a lump and change colour).

Remove and knead until smooth.

Finger Paint
  • 1 c. cornstarch
  • 1 c. mild soap flakes
  • 1/2 c. salt
  • 1 qt. cold water
  • colour

Add enough cold water to cornstarch to make a thin paste. Add soap flakes and salt to paste. Add cold water. Cook in double boiler, stirring constantly until very thick. Separate into portions and add colour.
